To keep your ATMs running after June 1st you MUST upgrade the software on your machine(s). The PCI Security Standards Council has mandated the discontinuation of SSL and early TLS (i.e. TLS 1.0) protocols effective June 1st, 2018.
Network providers will become compliant with this mandate on May 29, 2018. After this date, ALL ATMs using SSL or early TLS (i.e. TLS 1.0) Communications protocol will stop communicating to the Host and fail to process any transactions.
• ATM’s communicating via hardwired internet connection
• ATM’s communicating via a phone line or cellular wireless device will not be impacted if the box is TLS 1.2
• On new ATM’s set the communication protocol on your ATMs to use TLS 1.2
• Anytime you visit a direct connect TCP/IP communicating ATM verify that TLS1.2 is set
• If the ATM is TCPIP and the wireless is the one providing SSL you will need to reach out to the wireless provider
We strongly recommend going through your entire portfolio to assure that every one of your terminals is updated to the TLS 1.2 protocol* before the CDS end date of June 26th 2018. THIS INCLUDES ANY ATM YOU MAY HAVE SOLD TO A RETAIL LOCATION. FAILURE TO UPDATE TERMINALS BY THIS DATE WILL PREVENT THOSE TERMINALS FROM PROCESSING TRANSACTIONS.
*THE TLS PROTOCOL FOR TERMINALS OPERATING VIA WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS IS SET BY THE WIRELESS PROVIDER. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR WIRELESS PROVIDER TO CONFIRM THAT THEY HAVE UPDATED THEIR CONFIGURATION TO INCLUDE TLS 1.2*
• Ignore EOT
• Use port 6965 and standard TCP/IP where possible
• Enable reversal at host error
• If you are using wireless make sure the provider is calling 6965
• Update the software
Please note this does not include TLS 1.1 or higher, however, that will also be phased out soon and we are seeing a high percentage of ATMs utilizing TLS 1.1. While you are at the ATMs with TLS 1.1 you should go ahead and upgrade to the TLS 1.2 protocol.
